Tree plantation drive

Tree plantation drive

Since 2019, we organize plantation drives on certain occasions and also based on the requirement of the local terrain with adequate fencing. The team ‘Gach Green Hands’ is energetic enough not only to carry out this project on various locations, but also vigilant reasonably regarding the post-plantation monitoring of the planted saplings.

Benefits

We are careful to select the native varieties of plants which can grow easily in the local terrain. We donate fruit bearing trees to the children and women folk of the villages with a hope that these trees will fulfill their nutritional requirements to certain extent.

Education

Anirvana Gacher Iskul is an open air school for tribal children run by Gach Green Hands Welfare Trust. This is a school, where children not only learn the various subjects under the government curriculum but also learn to fall in love with Mother Nature and the basics of environmental protection with hands on experiences

Benefits

Anirvana means ‘Inextinguishable’.

We believe each of these tribal children is an inextinguishable flame of the lamp of immense possibilities. One day they will spread their green hands to make the world a better place.

Amidst the pandemic stricken time in 2021, an exodus of school drop outs was observed in various parts of rural Bengal. Most of the tribal communities couldn’t afford to provide their children with the luxury of virtual lessons. Moreover these children were readily available for child labour. We tried our level best to provide an alternative to these children by constructing ‘Anirvana Gacher Iskul’, an open air school under the shades of trees.

We started with 5 children and now the present strength is 80.The government schools were shut down. Mid-day-meal scheme also came to a standstill. Our trust took up the challenge of providing mid-day-meal to those children. We cater to the need of the children who belong to a hamlet ( Shamlapur in Bahadurpur area under block Farakka) of Murshidabad district of West Bengal. At present, as the classes happen in the morning hours, we provide simple breakfast to the children.
Here we try to inculcate a basic sense of environmental awareness in the young learners from the very childhood.
Alongside studies, we provide an opportunity for children to learn drawing, artwork, dance, music and sports in a free ambience to ensure their holistic development.

Education For Adults

At ‘Anirvana’ we take special weekly lessons for mothers not only to ensure primary education, but also to give them an emotional support. A healthy and educated mother can go a long way in influencing her child’s health and education.

Benefits

This effort has helped creating conducive ambience to take people into confidence and reach out to the grass-root level of society with our work. Around 30 tribal women are now literate as an outcome of this project.

Sustainability

Sustainability1

“Our biggest challenge in this new century is to take an idea that seems abstract – sustainable development – and turn it into reality for all the world’s people.”

-Kofi Annan

Benefits

Apart from regular plantation agenda, we take up the following steps towards sustainable lifestyle.

  • Cloth Tote-Bags

Single use plastics are causing huge concerns today for the environment. In our own way, we try to promote a culture of using cloth tote-bags among children. In order to elevate the concept to the next level, we get this tote-bags designed by our children and other patrons to put them on sell. The whole purpose of this exercise is to spread the awareness of using our own cloth bags in the society. The entire fund generated by selling the tote-bags is used in the development of the school.

  • Edha

The self help group of 23 odd tribal women, is working towards creating eco-friendly products. Edha has reconstructed 'Chatai' an age old eco-friendly item of rural Bengal. This was an initiative to revive and transform the heritage for modern need and taste.

  • Accepting and Reusing of old cloths and fabrics

Ever year a lot of cloth-wastes find their ways to the landfills. Most of these wastes are generated from the urban areas because of our present lifestyle. Many a time we land up in purchasing more clothes than our actual requirements. Year after year these old clothes get piled up in our wardrobe just to create concerns as most of the time we don’t know what to do with them. In order to curb this issue at our level, we accept old but usable clothes for children as donations and provide our students as per the requirement.

Covid Project

Covid Project1

The on fall of Covid pandemic, triggered our organization to shift gear to the arena of social works from mere execution of Nature based projects. The marriage of these to fields into the domain of our work has resulted in ensuring the education of the marginalized children. We also took the challenging task of providing mid day meal to 50 odd children on a daily basis and reaching out 30 odd families with daily commodities and ration. We also got involved in speeding awareness in maintaining the Covid appropriate behavior. We manufactured cotton masks and made them available to people at nominal charges.
